There are many books which can be considered valuable. If you want to avoid losing or misplacing them, you should keep records of loans or the condition of your books. Book Label was designed specifically for this task. You can use it to catalog your books, keep track of loaned items and much more. The software allows you to assign large amounts of information to individual books, manually or by searching for relevant details online.

Book Label is shareware, which means that you may try it for a limited period of time, after which you must purchase a license if you are satisfied with the software. Its setup file is almost 11 MB and you can install its components in a few moments, on Windows XP or any later edition. The hardware requirements are modest, so you can run the program on any mid-range computer.

You can view book entries, on the main user interface, in a detailed list or as thumbnails. New book entries can be created on a separate window, on which you must type a book's title and author and make various specifications. You can set the book type to classical book, e-book, audio books and others. It is also possible to specify a book's current condition and location, rate it, add chapters, type a summary and assign an image as the book's cover.

If you don't have time to insert a book's details manually, you can retrieve the information from the Internet. All you have to do is type a keyword, on a small window and click a Search button. The software will look for the information on Amazon or Google and it will display the results on the same window. Results can be added to a download queue, which means that you may perform several searches and add more than one book to the database in a single run. You can also assign a status, condition and sequence number to your books, before downloading the information.

Authors and contacts can be managed separately. If you add an author to the database, you will be able to select his or her name in a drop menu, instead of typing it. Adding personal contacts to the database will help you manage loaned items. To mark a book as loaned, you only need to select the book and a contact and click an Apply button, on the left side of the interface.

Pros

You can assign any information you want to individual books. The best part is that Book Label can search for information about your books on the Internet and assign it automatically. It is also possible to manage contacts and loaned books.

Cons

In rare cases, you may have a few difficulties when marking a book as loaned. With Book Label, you will always know where your books are and in what state.
